Exeter, Three Rivers to hold community blood drives on Dec. 6

If you’re in the giving mood this season, why not donate something that could save a life – blood.

The holidays can be a dangerous time with so many people traveling large distances, but by giving blood you may be able to make sure a family stays together during the holiday season.

Locally, residents will have two opportunities to donate blood on Dec. 6. The first will be a Community Blood Drive from 2-6 p.m. at the Three Rivers Memorial Building, located at 43490 Sierra Drive in Three Rivers.

The second will be a Community Blood Drive from 3-7 p.m. at A&W Restaurant, located at 420 N. Kaweah Ave. in Exeter.

“The holidays are almost here which means more folks will be traveling the freeways for extended periods and unfortunately more accidents happen. The Central California Blood Center needs your help to be prepared by making sure we have an adequate blood supply for our Valley hospitals,” states Chris Sorensen, Director of Community Relations and Development.

Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old. Senior citizens are encouraged to donate. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within 4 hours prior to their donation. Donors can give blood every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social Security Number are required at donor registration. The Central California Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa Counties and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood a month to meet the needs of our Valley community.
