‘Star’ guitar plays at PC
Classical guitarist Joshua Anderson, a senior music major at California State University, Fresno, will present a recital at noon this coming Friday, March 22 in room CA-2 at Porterville College. There is no admission charged for this performance (donations will be accepted to defray Mr. Anderson’s expenses). Parking restrictions are relaxed for this event.
Completing his undergraduate degree in music performance under the direction of Dr. Corey Whitehead, Anderson was featured in November of 2011 at the Fresno Art Museum, sponsored by La Bella String Company. For the last three years he has been the only guitar player in the university’s scholarship group “Bulldog Beat,” and spent the last two years performing in Fresno State’s Jazz Orchestra. He has also been a part of several musical productions in the last two years such as Urinetown, Assassins, Spring Awakening and Next to Normal, where he has played guitar, electric bass, banjo and mandolin.
In May, 2010, Joshua was part of 60 choir members hand-picked to sing at the Save Mart Center for the Star Wars in Concert event where they performed with their touring orchestra and met Anthony Daniels, the actor who played C-3P0 and was host of the concert.
Jointly sponsored by the Porterville College Music Department and Porterville Friends of Music, this recital offers the local audience an unusual opportunity to see and hear classical guitar in a rather intimate setting.
