If you love creating handmade crafts and you always hear people advising you that you should sell your materials, it is likely to be time to move into the world of cash.

Like creating any type of home-based business, entering the world of selling handmade crafts must be efficiently planned out. There are a good number of websites and venues where you can sell your crafts both online and off.

It’s not too late sell your crafts locally for the holidays, and your first chance of the season is this Saturday in Three Rivers. The 27th Annual Holiday Arts and Craft Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Three Rivers Memorial Building, 43490 Sierra Drive (Highway 198). There will be booths with hand-made gifts, food and drinks, a bake sale, an auction and door prizes. Some people are known to stand in line for hours, eyeing the fantastic local preserves, and hoping to get inside to claim their favorites before they are all gone. But before jumping in to sell your crafts, whether locally or through an online website, make sure to take some time and do research first. Ask yourself the following questions as you give thought to the idea of selling your crafts:

* Will folks even want to buy my items?

This is the underlying question you have to ask yourself. If there is no target market for your brands , you will have a hard time trying to sell your crafts, not because your items aren’t enjoyable , but they may not be in demand.

* Who is my potential target market?

Your target market is the traffic who would feasibly shop for your pieces .You have to know who to advertise to and how to successfully attract your target market to your items . For example, it would be a waste of time looking to sell baby clothes to individuals who do not have children.

* What will I charge for my crafts?

Pricing is an major strategy. All too often, people under-price their crafts, forgetting to allow for the time and materials that go into a product. Make sure you consider both the cost of the materials as well as the time and effort you put forth to create your goods.

Also be sure not to charge too much . You will possibly find that your things won’t sell simply because they are over priced .

* Where will I sell my items?

There are a lot of websites where you can sell handmade goods. There are websites such as Etsy and Artfire who only allow the sales of handmade merchandise or the material needed to create them.

eBay is also another favorite medium to sell handmade goods. realize though, that you will be vying with other goods that are not handmade and may be low-priced . A good description of the item and its benefits is always a good idea.

If you choose to sell locally, you can set up at area craft events . Craft shows are customarily a one or two-day local sale where you rent space or a table for the day. Other crafters will be there too so you can sell to the guests and sell to other crafters.

Check with local retailers that sell handmade crafts and see if they’d be interested in displaying some of your crafts on consignment. make sure to get all of the sales agreements in writing, particularly if the store owner will be taking a type of commission.

It is very plausible today to make excellent money selling your crafts. With some work and planning, your handmade crafts hobby may even turn into a source of full-time income and you’ll be able to “quit your day job.”
