Ruby Marie Todd
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday Jan. 18, 2013 at the Exeter District Cemetery for Ruby Marie Todd.
She left this earthly life on Jan. 11, 2013 at her home in Silverton, Ore.
Ruby was born on Nov. 18, 1917 in Ripley County, Mo., and was the seventh of eight children born to William Leonard Lasseter and Lina Melinda (Horn) Lasseter.
Her family moved from Missouri to Exeter in 1919 where she attended Lincoln Elementary School. A few years later, her family moved back to the family farm in Missouri, where she later met the love of her life, William (Bill) H. Todd. They were married there on Nov. 12, 1932. Their first child, Alice, was born there in 1934. In January of 1935, the family traveled by train back to Exeter where daughters Lola and Loretta were born. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God in Exeter, having fond memories of the early days there when tent meetings were held by Ross Minkler.
Ruby was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother to their three daughters. She enjoyed stencil painting, crocheting and pie baking, and made the best German Chocolate cake you ever ate. She was also a noted seamstress and worked at Merriman Fruit Company in Exeter for many years. She and Bill together enjoyed traveling, and through the years enjoyed many extended car trips throughout the western and central U.S. A special joy for them was any occasion, real or created, that lended the opportunity for a family dinner together. Most memorable were fish-frys or chicken and dumplings. Family dinners always included lots of homemade ice cream as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents; all seven of her siblings; her brothers, Ellis (Goldie), James (Annabet), Bill (Malda) and Chester (Susan); her sisters, Althea (Joe) Borgman, Nellie (Hume) Crook, and Melba (Jack) Cunningham; her husband, Bill on Aug. 17, 1983; and daughter Alice on Sept. 16, 2000.
Due to declining health, Ruby moved to Silverton, Ore. in September, 2004 where she resided at Davenport House Assisted Living Community, and most recently at Wisdom Keepers Adult Foster Care.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Lola (Jim) Collins of Exeter and Loretta (Dale) Armstrong of Sonora, Calif. She was grandmother to Fred (Janet) Smith of Silverton, Ore., Lesa (Norman) Schmidt of Turlock, Calif., Christy Letsinger of Los Osos, Calif., Clay (Patty) Smith of Visalia, Aaron Collins of Visalia and Cheryl (Sam) Wybenga of Centennial, Colo. She was great-grandmother to Sarah Smith of Silverton, Ore., Rachael (Andy) Stutzman of Silverton, Ore., Alexander and Amanda Schmidt of Davis, Calif., Benjamin Bruun of Visalia, Hailey Tashjian of Santa Cruz, Calif., Daniel Magill of Visalia, Sean, Shannon and Kerry Smith of Visalia; and great-great-grandchildren are Emma, Will and Lucy Stutzman of Silverton, Ore. Other family includes many, many nieces and nephews.
