Getting muddy for local charities
The 5th Annual Mud Football game was held on Saturday, June 29 in a muddy field just west of Exeter. The event raises money for different local charities each year.
This year the funds raised will help the Exeter Pride girl’s seventh grade basketball team make the trip to the California state tournament in San Diego.
This year’s tournament was won by the yellow team, also called the Queen Bees. The Queens have dominated winning or tying for the last three years.
They went undefeated this year and finished the day by beating a team made up from the other three teams combined. Yellow team captain Chrissy Buma was proud of her team.
“We only have one speed and we bring it,” she said. “We have taken this thing three years in a row and plan on making it four.”
Kathy Baxter, one of the event organizers said, “This is just so much fun. We get out here and play hard and have a great time. We’ll start planning next year’s event soon.”
T-shirts are still available from this year’s event. They are $15 and to purchase one just contact one of the players via Facebook.
